NIK-NPWP Matching: Is It Still Necessary in the Coretax Era?

Arunika Consulting Team

Since mid-2024, the issue of matching NIK (Population Identification Number) to become NPWP (Nomor Pokok Wajib Pajak - Taxpayer Identification Number) in 16-digit format has been very intense. Now in 2026, with Coretax operating, is this process still relevant?

The answer: Very Relevant and Mandatory.

NIK Is the Key to Enter Coretax

The Coretax system fully uses the 16 Digit NPWP format (which is your NIK) as the primary key.

  • To login to Coretax, the username is NIK.
  • For PPh 21 withholding proof creation, companies must input employee NIK.

If your NIK is not yet valid (not “Valid” status in the DGT system), you will experience serious access obstacles:

  1. Failed Login: You cannot enter your own tax dashboard.
  2. Higher Tax Rates: In some cases, if the system fails to identify your taxpayer status due to invalid NIK, you may be charged higher PPh withholding rates (non-NPWP rates) by employers/clients.

Check Your Status Now

Although the DGT system performs automatic matching with Dukcapil (Population and Civil Registration) data, failures often occur due to data differences (name spelling, place of birth, etc.).

How to check:

  1. Open the Coretax or DGT Online portal.
  2. View profile status.
  3. Ensure main data status reads “Valid”. If “Needs Confirmation”, immediately perform self-data update according to the latest ID card/Family Card.
